Acoustic Neuroma Symptoms

Symptoms can be gradual, subtle, and different from person to person. This overview can help you describe what you are experiencing.

These symptoms can have many causes. Only a qualified clinician can evaluate them.

Hearing and sound

  • One-sided or asymmetric hearing loss
  • Tinnitus
  • Difficulty understanding speech
  • Sound sensitivity or listening fatigue

Balance and movement

  • Dizziness or vertigo
  • Unsteadiness
  • Feeling worse in busy visual environments
  • Reduced confidence walking in darkness or crowds

Other possible changes

Depending on tumor characteristics, some people may experience facial numbness, facial weakness, headaches, or other neurological symptoms. New, severe, or rapidly changing symptoms deserve prompt medical attention.
